Amanda Stott-Smith passed away at the Wilsonville, Oregon Correctional Facility in Coffee Creek, according to the Oregon Department of Corrections Sunday.
After she threw her two children from the Sellwood Bridge in 2009, Stott-Smith was charged with aggravated attempted murder. On May 23, 2009, 4-year-old Eldon Smith was killed after falling from a height of 75 feet.
Seven-year-old Trinity Smith, who was being rescued after hearing two people’s cries for help, avoided the fall.
Stott-Smith was sentenced to life in prison with a parole term of 35 years in April 2010. Stott-Smith expressed regret at the sentencing.
“I want to express my sincere apologies to everyone present today, but especially to my children,” she said.
Trinity and Eldon were rescued from the Willamette River by Cheryl Robb and Dave Haag in 2009. When they heard Trinity cry for help, they launched their boat. Oregon State Police look at any deaths that occur while someone is in their care. Stott-Smith’s cause of death will be determined by a medical examiner.

Amanda Stott-Smith, the mother who killed one of her children by throwing them over the Sellwood Bridge in Portland’s Willamette River in 2009, has died aged 45 in custody.
According to the Oregon Department of Corrections, Stott-Smith died at dawn on June 4 at the Coffee Creek Correctional Facility. Stott-Smith’s cause of death will be determined by an autopsy, which has been scheduled.
After pleading guilty to intentionally murdering her 7-year-old daughter Trinity and killing her 4-year-old son Eldon, Stott-Smith was sentenced to life in prison with the opportunity to be pardoned for 35 years. Trinity survived a 70-foot fall.
