The topic has long been prevalent in Alex’s household. Her mother, an English native who was born and reared there, was the granddaughter of a market merchant who, when he was ten years old, defused bombs that had fallen in his Essex backyard during the Blitz and used to point at the Luftwaffe from Southend Pier.

Although her family tree crosses with that of Winston’s and the 1st Duke of Marlborough, Alex’s grandfather came from the Roman Army that was stationed at Hadrian’s Wall.

Her father immigrated to England in the 1970s from Pakistan. Alex came from Alexander the Great’s mobile army on his side. It’s actually amazing that she hasn’t yet tried to invade Wales or the Isle of Wight as her grandfather (on her father’s side) was one of the millions of men from the sub-continent who fought for the British in World War 2!

Alex made his television debut in 2009 in a Timewatch episode about the air war in 1918. Since then, she has routinely appeared in films on military history, discussing the two world wars, the wars of the Victorian era, and hostilities that have occurred since 1945. In the most recent episode of UKTV’s returning series World War Weird, she was shown describing peculiar happenings that occurred during the War.

Alex was also asked to plan, research, and appear in programs commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Titanic disaster and the sinking of the Lusitania thanks to her knowledge in nautical history. The former received a television BAFTA nomination.

In addition, Alex has authored best-selling novels on the First World War, the boys of Eton College, and the Battle of the Somme.

She co-founded and serves as host of the popular lockdown podcast History Hack, which has already had 500,000 downloads. Alex also oversees The Great War Group, a brand-new nonprofit organization established to uphold the memory of and encourage interest in the war.

Additionally, Alex serves as the journal’s principal editor. The publication is a big success and consistently receives excellent reviews.

She is also pursuing her MRes in history at the graduate level.

Alex rejects the cancel culture. She feels that if you just give her a platform to explain why the borders are ambiguous, people are intelligent and will grasp that history isn’t clear-cut.
