Troutman, North Carolina – The tight-knit community of Troutman is grappling with shock and grief after the tragic shooting that claimed the life of 18-year-old Alexander Hipple on Mills Avenue. The incident, which occurred on Saturday night, has left the town in mourning and the police actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to reports, Alexander Hipple, a resident of Mooresville, was shot while in a car with another victim, Zachary Craig. After the shooting, Zachary drove to a nearby Food Lion on North Main Street seeking help. Tragically, Alexander Hipple succumbed to his injuries, while Zachary Craig was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries but has since been released.
The Troutman Police Department, in collaboration with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, is actively pursuing leads related to the case. While a 17-year-old has been arrested in connection with the shooting, another suspect remains on the run. The investigation suggests that the incident may have stemmed from a robbery.
Residents in the area, like Danelle McGallard and Kristi Boyles, expressed shock and disbelief at the violent turn of events. McGallard, who was present at the scene, emphasized the tragic loss of life, stating, “Nobody should ever lose their life at the expense of somebody else.” Boyles, whose home was near the shooting, recounted the harrowing moment she heard the gunshots.
Troutman Police Chief Joel Watson assured the community that there is no ongoing threat to the public, dispelling fears of random acts of violence. He emphasized the department’s commitment to transparency while urging against the spread of misinformation on social media.
During a Troutman Town Council meeting, Chief Josh Watson provided an update on the investigation, assuring council members and the community that steps are being taken to address the tragedy. Councilman George Harris commended the professionalism of the Troutman Police Department in responding to the incident and comforting traumatized community members.
Mayor Pro Tem Paul Henkel mourned the loss of life and condemned the irresponsible use of weapons, emphasizing that no community is immune to violence. Mayor Teross Young called on community members to avoid spreading misinformation on social media, acknowledging the toll it takes on law enforcement’s efforts.
