The passing of Alex Toribio on September 9th, 2023, has left family members and friends in mourning as they remember a beloved soul who battled mental health issues with unwavering courage. Alex’s passing was a heartbreaking reminder of the importance of addressing mental health challenges in our society.
As Lala Sotelo stated:
“This month is suicide prevention month, I know many who have felt the struggles, the many tears, the many thoughts and the many times you’ve felt alone. The dreading of getting up each morning. I know the pains and have too dealt with this kind of depression. This month I am dedicating to a dear family friend Alex Toribio. I am doing a bake sale and proceeds will go to his wife and family while they grieve during this unimaginable time. 💙💜 – a future post will be made with information on the bake sale”.
Alex Toribio’s struggle with mental health came to a tragic end when he died by suicide on a Saturday in September. Throughout his life, Alex had been open and transparent about the difficulties he faced with his mental well-being, offering support and understanding to those who were also navigating similar tough times. He was a beacon of hope for many, known for his contagious laugh and a smile that could light up any room he entered. Alex was, quite simply, a friend to everyone he met.
In addition to his role as a friend, Alex was a cherished member of his family, wearing multiple hats as a loving husband, devoted brother, caring son, and a true friend. His love story with his wife, Tatum, began in high school, and from that point forward, they were inseparable. Their journey led them to tie the knot in May 2019, and they embarked on a new chapter in Arizona with their two canine companions, Toby and Bear. Alex cherished every moment spent with his family and friends, with a special place in his heart for his niece Callie, nephew Jameson, and his brothers Austin and Dallas.
A GoFundMe page is organised by Angela Hetland having title “Alex Toribio” with the target of $9,000. It is stated on the page:
“On Saturday, September 9th, 2023, Alex Toribio took his own life. Alex was open about his struggle with mental health and was always there for others who were struggling. Alex was a great husband, brother, son, and friend. Alex and his wife Tatum started dating during their freshman year of high school and have been inseparable ever since. They married in May 2019 and moved to Arizona with their two dogs, Toby and Bear. Alex enjoyed spending time with his friends, his two brothers Austin and Dallas, and his niece Callie and his nephew Jameson. Alex was a friend to all and his infectious laugh and smile would light up the room.
If you can help make a donation to help his wife Tatum during this time or just share to help get the word out, anything is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your support during this time”.
Mental health issues are a pervasive concern, affecting countless individuals in various ways. They encompass a broad spectrum of conditions, such as depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, eating disorders, and addictive behaviors, all of which can impact one’s mood, thinking, and behavior.
It’s crucial for anyone experiencing signs or symptoms of a mental health condition to seek help promptly. Many mental illnesses do not naturally improve, and untreated, they can worsen over time, leading to severe complications. Additionally, certain mental health disorders are associated with an increased risk of suicidal thoughts and behaviors.
Alex Toribio’s tragic passing serves as a somber reminder of the urgent need for greater awareness, understanding, and support for individuals facing mental health challenges. As we mourn his loss, let us also remember his enduring spirit and the light he brought to the lives of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
