4 dead including suspect gunman in shooting at Home Depot Mentor in Ohio

Lake County, Ohio – A devastating incident unfolded in Mentor Green Mobile Home Park on Thursday night, resulting in the loss of four lives, including that of the suspected gunman, according to reports from Mentor Police. The situation also left one individual injured, who was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital and remains in stable condition.

Law enforcement officers revealed that the shooter had barricaded himself within a trailer home. A specialized SWAT team successfully entered the premises, discovering the perpetrator deceased due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

In response to the grave situation, approximately 30 area residents were evacuated from their homes and relocated to the safety of the Mentor Senior Center, confirmed Ante Logarusic, spokesperson for the city of Mentor.

Eyewitnesses recounted the harrowing moment they heard multiple gunshots upon returning from work around 4:30 p.m. Scott Skufca, one of the neighbors, immediately assessed the situation to ensure safety in his immediate vicinity.

Mentor Police took extensive measures during the standoff, closing off a significant stretch of Mentor Avenue from Kirtland Road to State Route 306 for several hours.

“We attempted to establish contact with the suspect, but after receiving no response, proceeded cautiously and eventually found him deceased,” Logarusic stated.

Emergency services, including ambulances and buses, were deployed to ensure the safe evacuation of neighbors from the mobile home park. The American Red Cross provided support by setting up a warming bus at the scene and establishing an overnight shelter for the displaced individuals.

Scott Skufca expressed surprise at the tragic incident, mentioning the usual tranquility of the area. However, he emphasized the unpredictable nature of such events.
