Biography of Matthew Wade
Matthew Scott Wade, 34, was born in Hobart, Australia, on 26 December 1987. His father, Scott Wade, played rugby under Australian rules for Hawthorn in the Victorian Football League (VFL), for Clarence and Hobart in the Tasmanian Football League (TFL), and held the position of CEO of AFL Tasmania for a considerable period. Michael Wade, his grandfather, president of Hobart Football Club. Wade is the cousin of Jeremy Howe, a defender for Collingwood Football Club.
Wade plays rugby and cricket for Tasmania, serving as the Tassie Mariners’ vice-captain in the TAC Cup while playing with future AFL stars Sam Lonergan, Grant Birchall and Jack Riewoldt. At the 2006 ICC Under-19 World Cricket Championship, he represented Australia.

- Matt Wade entered one of his only Match Lists for Tasmania of any kind during his first time in the United States as a match for the Tasmanian Tigers during the 2006–2007 Ford Ranger One Day Cup season. Due to the existence of Tim Paine, who at the time was thought to be a potential replacement for Brad Haddin as a catcher for the Australian national team, his chances of being selected as batting keeper in his home country were slim. Instead of trying to become a hitter, Wade moved to Victoria for the 2007–08 season. Within two years, he had replaced incumbent Adam Crosthwaite as the state’s first-choice hitter.
- In the 2008–09 season, Wade achieved his first record in a first-place match. He played with the team 5/60 and scored 96 runs, helping Victoria beat Queensland in the 2009–10 Sheffield Shield final. Wade was selected as man of the match as Victoria beat her opponent in 457 runs.
- In February 2015, he scored 152 goals for Victoria in the Sheffield Shield, his highest score to date, after receiving a suspension and penalty for tampering in 2013. Wade joined the Delhi Daredevils in January 2011 and went on to play three times for Delhi in the 2011 Indian Premier League.

He scored two shots on target in the second-to-last half of the court for fouls, helping him keep hitting the shot and hit the one-hundred-run mark. Earlier in his plays, Wade was called LBW, but the call was reversed when he asked for reconsideration.
- For the series against New Zealand in January 2017, Australia appointed Matthew Wade as their ODI captain in place of the injured Steve Smith. He was dropped from the team for being deemed unfit for the first ODI. For this game, Aaron Finch will be the interim captain. Wade was dropped from the series prior to the series’ second ODI due to back pain, but Finch continued to serve as captain in the remaining games.
