JK Rowling has opened a counseling center in Scotland for survivors of rape and sexual assault. The center restricts services to transgender women and excludes transgender employees. The facility, Beira’s Place, is housed in an old townhouse and advertises itself as “Edinburgh’s sexual assault center for women.” Her “Congratulations Terfmas” reply came in response to a tweet encouraging her new business while also cheering her on over the holiday season. “Beira’s Place is a service exclusively for women. Under Section 212 of the Equality Act 2010, women are “women of all ages” and Beira’s Place services are available to women 16 years of age and older.
